12 Hashtags Every Art Teacher Should Know

By The Arty Teacher - May 16, 2018

This blog post looks at hashtags every art teacher should know, and why you should know them.  Or should you?

It’s useful to know about hashtags for Art Teaching if you use social media.  You may want to attract people to posts or tweets that you make, or you may want to track down other like-minded teachers or information that is useful in your teaching.  The following are used on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms.

#Arted and #Artsed

What’s the difference between #Arted and #Artsed? These are the two main art education hashtags.  #Artsed encompasses all of the arts, whereas #arted seems to be visual art specific.  Also, #arted is used more in the UK and #artsed more in America.  So you can use one or the other depending on who you want to connect with and how broadly.

#ArtTeacher #ArtEducation #K12ArtChat are all used by Art Teachers all the time and are a great way to connect with art teachers around the globe.

#HighSchoolArt and #MiddleSchoolArt are regularly used and pretty self-explanatory. They are a great way to connect with teachers who teach the same age range as you.

#moreARTnotless is a good hashtag to be aware of if, like me, you feel passionate about the decreasing quantity of art taught in schools.  Get protesting with this hashtag!

#ArtTeacherProblems is a hashtag used by teachers to vent in both a humorous and real way.  There is a fun Facebook page here to do just that.

#thebigdraw and #doodleforgoogle are both major art competitions in the UK and USA respectively.  If you want to get involved, or just to find other Art Teachers, these are good to know.

#Artselfie

How creative could you be with this hashtag?!  An Art Selfie requires interaction with the artwork, not just a photograph next to an artwork.  Next time you are in a gallery or next to a sculpture get interactive and get posting!  This can be your whole self or just your hand!

My free ‘Hashtags Starter’ resource uses a different set of hashtags from above to help your students research different topics.  As it asks them to look up topics on social media they don’t even realise that they are starting to research! Click the image below to find out more.
