Teaching ceramics involves using a lot of subject specific language. This resource is a fantastic starter activity to consolidate the learning of ceramic terms. Students work in groups to match the word with the definition. Just print and laminate the sheets, cut them out and then in half and you’re good to go.
There are 16 definitions included but of course you can pick and choose which ones you use:
- Centring
- Durable
- Extruding
- Firing
- Greenware
- Kiln
- Scoring
- Leather Hard Clay
- Potter’s Wheel
- Bisque Firing
- Glaze
- Slip
- Vitrification
- Wedging
- Bisqueware
- Shrink Factor
There are definition cards for colour theory too.
The Arty Teacher has an inspiring Pinterest board on ceramics.
