Vitruvian Mannequin

Vitruvian Mannequin – Proportions of the Body

Get your students thinking about the proportions of the body with this ‘Vitruvian mannequin’ resource.  Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s Vitruvian man, it’s a good task to teach before embarking on life drawing.  Students will:

  • Learn about da Vinci’s Vitruvian man.  A modest example of the Vitruvian man is on the worksheet. (Yes, I gave him a pair of shorts!)
  • Learn about the proportions of the body through a practical task.
  • Improve their drawing and shading skills.

This download includes the three worksheets pictures here which are:

  • A resource that shows the Vitruvian man and a Vitruvian mannequin.
  • A good example of a completed drawing.
  • A blank circle and square for students to draw within.
  • A one-page PowerPoint to show the good example on screen.
