Drawing with Wire

This video explores drawing with wire using a shell as a starting point.  It’s an ideal video to watch with students who have never drawn with wire before.  This process reminds me of contour drawings and continuous line drawings and is a great bridge between drawing and working in three dimensions.

If you are delivering a natural forms unit of work, drawing a shell with wire will integrate well into that project.  This video shows you the wire I like to use and how easy it is to manipulate and cut.  You really need easy to cut wire if you are planning to use it with students!

The video also shows you the joining technique that I have used with this shell.  It is under 6 minutes long, so a good length for the start of the lesson.  Drawing with wire is a great way to get your students to develop their work and ideal if you are following a course that wants students to experiment with a wide variety of different media.
