During this one-hour course, you will start to build your skills and confidence working with acrylic. The course covers tints, shades, gradation, underpainting, mixing with complementary colours, artists’ black and culminates in a small painting.
Once you have watched the professional development, you will be able to download a certificate that includes your name, the name of the course, and the duration. Although the video is 1 hour, the duration of the course is 2 hours to allow you time to complete the tasks within.
This course is ideal if you are new to teaching or at the start of your career and would like the opportunity to dedicate some time to improving your acrylic skills and knowledge.
The course includes a range of resources to support your learning, such as a worksheet, colour wheel, and my ‘good example’.
Materials Required: Acrylics in these specific colours: Cadmium Yellow and Red, Ultramarine, Emerald Green, Black, White and either Prussian or Phthalo Blue. A flat brush and a round brush. I’d also recommend your favourite hot beverage or tipple and a delicious snack. After all, art is meant to be fun.

Such a clear introduction to the use of acrylic paint. The structure of the video was concise and easy to follow with useful information including relevant terminology and examples of different artists’ work. Being able to work along with the video gave excellent first hand knowledge to pass onto my students. The printable resources are also super helpful. I’m looking forward to using what I have learnt along side the ‘Painting with Acrylic’ resources also available. Thank you so much.

Thank you so much for this!
I thoroughly enjoyed painting along to this (during the summer holidays with my daughter) and have already been able to apply some new knowledge gained to my lessons with KS3, 4 and 5!
I am looking forward to working myself through more of your courses, enjoyable and so good that I can access them whenever it suits me and my busy teaching career and family life! Thank you!

Loved learning how to make artist black, never have I been introduced to that before. The mixing of colors is wonderful, can’t wait to get back to school and teach my students about color! Thank you!

I set up The Arty Teacher because I have a passion for my subject that I want to share with other art teachers around the world.
I have been a high school art teacher for over 20 years, so I understand what it’s like to be in front of a class of students, often with very different abilities and attitudes.
I wanted to develop resources that would help teachers to bring out the best in every student in every class. I also wanted to free-up staff from time-consuming lesson preparation to let them focus instead on delivering exciting, motivating, dynamic lessons, supported by excellent resources.
