Extension Tasks

What do you do with students who finish early?  These 60 single-page imaginative art extension tasks for early finishers are the answer.

These activities have been designed for younger students who finish early. (Age 8 -12) I like to let them choose but I only put out a few at a time so I’ve always got fresh ideas to bring out at a later date.

·Alternatively, use these activities as a short starter activity as the beginning of a lesson.

·Many of these activities would also make great homework tasks!

All tasks are designed to fire your student’s imaginations. For example, one task asks them to draw the ingredients of a spell in and around a witch’s hat. Another asks them to draw a selfie inside a phone case. Monsters, aliens, friends and family, nail art, microscopes, insects, cupcakes and inventions all make an appearance.

Extension Tasks

Most tasks only need pencils and coloured pencils. One task needs tracing paper, and one needs black paper and glue. You could choose not to use these if you wished! Creative and imaginative, these activities will really fire your students’ imaginations! These activities are within a PowerPoint presentation but can also be opened in Google Slides.

Sarah Crowther – The Arty Teacher

I set up The Arty Teacher because I have a passion for my subject that I want to share with other art teachers around the world.

I have been a high school art teacher for over 20 years, so I understand what it’s like to be in front of a class of students, often with very different abilities and attitudes.
