Drawing Characterful Collages

By The Arty Teacher - April 1, 2020

Watch the video below and then grab some magazines, glue and a pencil to draw.  Can you turn your creations into characterful drawings?

We have ‘Mr the Beef‘ aka Andy Denness-Hulland to thank for this video.  He is an art teacher working in Derby at Landau Forte College. After seeing this work, I wanted to know what had motivated him to work in this way.  He tells me that his background is illustration, street art, character design and Low Brow art, and that he has always had a passion for 20th-century art, architecture, design and literature.

“I worked as a freelance illustrator and artist from 2006 until 2017 when I decided to train to be an art teacher. I had been running workshops and working part-time as an art technician and really enjoyed working with young people.”

Thanks for this video Andy, it’s great for home learning!
