Writing about art is a lesson that helps develop student’s ability to write using subject-specific language and descriptively. Students write down their own key words, adjectives from a list and then write a paragraph about an artwork. The lesson plans includes detailed instructions so that the teacher can model this process before the students do this. This download includes:
- A detailed lesson plan that has all the written information required to model this activity.
- 4 artworks that are good to write about. (You could always add more!)
- 1 artwork that is the teacher example.
- A two-page list of appropriate adjectives.
I designed this writing about art resource to use with my A Level students (age 17) before they embark on the written element of the personal investigation. It would also be good to use with GCSE students.
There are many art literacy resources on The Arty Teacher website.
