Description

Draw the Missing Half of the Feather

It’s hard to see, but the feathers in the sketchbook page shown here are half drawing, half photograph. This project asks students to draw the missing half of the feather in different media. During this project students will:

  • Draw the missing half of 3 feathers in different media.
  • Present them in a sketchbook or on paper with annotations.

This download includes:

  • A 4-slide PowerPoint presentation (Pictured above) that includes editable objectives, a good example of a sketchbook page with annotation, sentence starters to help guide annotation.
  • A worksheet with 3 beautiful, high-resolution feathers to cut out and instructions.
  • The good example that is included in the PowerPoint is also provided as a PDF.

Materials required: The good example included in the project uses drawing pencils, coloured pencils and ballpoint pen. You could use alternative media. You will also need paper, scissor and glue.

There are other art lessons that use feathers as a starting point here: Feather Art Lessons.

Sarah Crowther – The Arty Teacher

I set up The Arty Teacher because I have a passion for my subject that I want to share with other art teachers around the world.

I have been a high school art teacher for over 20 years, so I understand what it’s like to be in front of a class of students, often with very different abilities and attitudes.

I wanted to develop resources that would help teachers to bring out the best in every student in every class. I also wanted to free-up staff from time-consuming lesson preparation to let them focus instead on delivering exciting, motivating, dynamic lessons, supported by excellent resources.
