This drawing a hand sub/cover lesson is so useful to have in your bank of resources. It will extend learning if you are delivering life drawing or portrait units of work. You can choose if students use a pencil or charcoal. This download includes:
There are many more cover/sub lessons on The Arty Teacher website.
this is very ‘handy’ as I am sick at home and the only way I can send cover to a non-art teacher…
It could be improved by adding some links to e.g Rembrandt drawing of hands etc and suggesting what next steps for more independent students able to develop their own work.
but thanks for saving the day!

I love your ideas for improvement and have added a list of artists who draw hands that students can research and also a suggestion for more independent students to develop their own work. It’s great to get your feedback. I’ll email you a copy.

I set up The Arty Teacher because I have a passion for my subject that I want to share with other art teachers around the world.
I have been a high school art teacher for over 20 years, so I understand what it’s like to be in front of a class of students, often with very different abilities and attitudes.
I wanted to develop resources that would help teachers to bring out the best in every student in every class. I also wanted to free-up staff from time-consuming lesson preparation to let them focus instead on delivering exciting, motivating, dynamic lessons, supported by excellent resources.
