Description

This ‘Drawing Peppers’ resource was created during the pandemic and uses limited materials and can be used in school or at home.  This download includes the following:

  • A printable 7-page PDF that includes drawing tasks for creating a line drawing, tone/value drawing, cross hatching drawing, coloured pencil drawing, stippling drawing and then students create a drawing in their most successful medium.  Each task includes a good example of what you want your students to draw.
  • A PowerPoint that includes all the same tasks that is useful if you want students to work in a sketchbook rather than on the worksheets.  The PowerPoint includes the images that you’d need to print for students to draw from, on the last two slides in the PowerPoint.

This resource comes with a version for the UK and USA to account for the different spellings of colour and use of tone/value.  There is also a version for Australia here which uses the word ‘Capsicum’.

There are more home learning resources and units of work on The Arty Teacher.

Materials Required: Pencil, Coloured Pencils, Ball Point Pens, Fine Liners.

  • Not the first time you came to the rescue

I recently returned from a school holiday break where I spent 90% of the time in bed with COVID-19. I felt uninspired, foggy, and unprepared for the upcoming lessons in week 13 of my Drawing 1 class. However, I found your pepper lesson with everything I needed to review and help my students progress with a sustained investigation. Thank you for your beautiful, meaningful, and thoughtful lessons. This is not the first time you have come to my rescue!

By the way, before moving on to beautiful photographs, we used real peppers for observational contour line and tonal drawings. If I had not had access to some peppers, the photos would have sufficed, but the aroma of freshly cut peppers added to the experience.

Sarah Crowther – The Arty Teacher

I set up The Arty Teacher because I have a passion for my subject that I want to share with other art teachers around the world.

I have been a high school art teacher for over 20 years, so I understand what it’s like to be in front of a class of students, often with very different abilities and attitudes.

I wanted to develop resources that would help teachers to bring out the best in every student in every class. I also wanted to free-up staff from time-consuming lesson preparation to let them focus instead on delivering exciting, motivating, dynamic lessons, supported by excellent resources.
