Gaudi Mosaic Mirror Unit of Work

This large unit of work asks student to research the architecture of Antoni Gaudi and make a card-constructed, Gaudi mosaic mirror/sculpture. During this project students will:

  • Research the work of Antoni Gaudi and create a research page.
  • Create a range of designs for a Gaudi-inspired mirror/sculpture.
  • Construct a mirror inspired by shapes found in Gaudi’s work.
  • Decorate the mirror/sculpture with magazine/mosaic pieces.
  • Assess their own work.

  • A 36-slide PowerPoint that includes an introduction to the work of Antoni Gaudi referencing the Sagrada Familia, Casa Batlló, Casa Milà, Art Nouveau and Catalan Modernism. It also includes example designs and step-by-step photos revealing how to make the Gaudi-inspired mirror.
  • 9 pages of original Gaudi images to inspire students when designing their Gaudi mirrors.
  • A 3-page written unit of work that conveniently divides the project into stages and includes differentiation and a range of homework tasks.
  • A single-point rubric that could be used for assessment or self-assessment.

Materials required: cardboard, old magazines, mirror card, glue, glue guns.
