Learning About Typefaces: What is included?‘Learning About Typefaces’ teaches students to name the different parts of a letter.  For example ascender, defender, counter, crossbar and many more.  This is ideal if you want to introduce a graphics element into your curriculum or as a precursor to a graphics project.   This download includes:

  • An 11 slide PowerPoint (Pictured above) that includes a script, turning you into the instant expert.
  • A resource sheet (pictured above  ‘A’) that labels many of the different parts of a letter.
  • A worksheet for students to write on (pictured above ‘B’) that students can label.
  • The PowerPoint has two additional sides not pictured above with a link to a Youtube Video that expands upon the knowledge gained from the PowerPoint and also an extension task.

‘Learning about Typefaces’ is one of many resources that teach students the beauty of lettering.

Sarah Crowther – The Arty Teacher

I set up The Arty Teacher because I have a passion for my subject that I want to share with other art teachers around the world.

I have been a high school art teacher for over 20 years, so I understand what it’s like to be in front of a class of students, often with very different abilities and attitudes.

I wanted to develop resources that would help teachers to bring out the best in every student in every class. I also wanted to free-up staff from time-consuming lesson preparation to let them focus instead on delivering exciting, motivating, dynamic lessons, supported by excellent resources.
