Description

Making Faces

Making faces is a 4-page resource, pictured above, that introduces your students to the work of Giuseppe  Arcimboldo.  It then goes on to ask them to create a face out of objects from around their home.  A list of features to include helps students create a detailed face. 5 suggested categories of objects such as fruit and vegetables or stationery, helps students think about what they could use.  It has tips for success including tips for photographing their work.  This is an ideal home learning task.

There are more Arcimboldo resources on The Arty Teacher.

8th grade students loved this. I use google meet to begin instruction about Guiseppe Arcrimboldo, then encouraged them to get busy! All pics were posted together the next day and students voted for Most creative, Minimalist and Best color.
I am happy to find something which encourages them to get up and move around, THINK!!!!

    • What a good idea getting students to vote. Yes, students have a lot of screen time when doing home learning and getting them to move around is a good idea. I also have some home learning photography tasks that get students to move around.

Love this!! Your creativity is inspiring, especially at a time when I am struggling with new ideas for my online classes. I teach 2nd-8th grade and I know all the students will think this is awesome!
    Thanks

This is exactly what I need for my virtual classrooms right now. I think this will be an engaging project for all my middle school students to create. No additional materials needed – very doable for all levels.

Sarah Crowther – The Arty Teacher

I set up The Arty Teacher because I have a passion for my subject that I want to share with other art teachers around the world.

I have been a high school art teacher for over 20 years, so I understand what it’s like to be in front of a class of students, often with very different abilities and attitudes.

I wanted to develop resources that would help teachers to bring out the best in every student in every class. I also wanted to free-up staff from time-consuming lesson preparation to let them focus instead on delivering exciting, motivating, dynamic lessons, supported by excellent resources.
