We all teach portraits, and having some portrait extension tasks up your sleeve is a good idea. The tasks in this download teach valuable skills and ask students to draw with pencil, coloured pencil and pastels. You can distribute them according to media or allow your students to choose. Tasks include:
- Drawing an iris with coloured pencils.
- Drawing a mouth with coloured pencils.
- Drawing an eye with oil pastels.
- Drawing a mouth with pencil.
There are two versions of ‘4 Portrait Extension Tasks’ to account for the different spellings of colour/color. There are many more portrait art lessons on The Arty Teacher website.
An extension task is a task you give to students who have completed the main work you have set. Extension tasks are for early finishers and should link to the main project and push students learning further.

I love the variety in these, and the thought of giving my students choice.
Thanks Jim. I’m glad you like this resource. I use it too!
