Quartered Portrait Project

Quartered Portrait Project

Portrait Project Presentation

This portrait project is a complete unit of work where students will:

  • Research 4 portrait artists and create a research page.
  • Photograph friends in their class, looking at different portrait viewpoints.
  • Experiment with a range of different media including pencil, coloured pencils, ballpoint pens and watercolour.

This download includes:

  • A 10-slide PowerPoint presentation.
  • A good example of the quartered portrait.
  • A 4-page written unit of work that includes 10 stages and lots of homework suggestions.
  • A single-column assessment resource that you can use yourself or as a self-assessment resource to cut down on marking.

There are lots of portrait art lessons on The Arty Teacher website and also resources that focus on features of the face which you might want to use in conjunction with this project.  This project is suitable for older students (perhaps Yr 9) or could be integrated into a GCSE portrait project.

Materials required: paper, transfer paper or light boxes, drawing pencils, coloured pencils, ballpoint pens and watercolour.*
