This comprehensive Soft Toys Still Life unit of work asks students to create a still life using soft toys and then draw using a variety of different media on a variety of surfaces.  Students bring in their own soft toys, so it’s personal too.  During this project students will:

  • Research a famous book illustrator and create a research page.
  • Create and photograph soft toy still life arrangements.
  • Create an art work where they draw with different media on different surfaces.

  • A 15-slide PowerPoint, pictured here, which includes a link to the illustrators website with wonderful examples of her work, and a good example of what they are going to create with close-ups of the different media. Also, a good example of a research page and images of the assessment resources listed below.
  • A 4-page written unit of work that includes 7 stages: Introduction, artists research, photography, direct observation, drawing with different media, assessment and extension task.  It also includes a range of suggested homework tasks.
  • A photography assessment rubric.
  • A self-assessment task for the drawing. (2 versions with the words ‘tone’ and ‘colour’, or ‘value’ and ‘color’).
