Description

This complete Sweets and Cakes Unit of Work asks students to research and develop ideas around the theme of cakes and sweets.  Students look at the artist Sarah Graham plus as artist of their own choosing.  This unit of work suggests downloading the free presentation on Sarah Graham.  The download includes:

  • A 4 page written unit of work that includes the following stages: photography, drawing and painting in a range of media, monoprinting (optional), artist research, developing work inspired by artists, supporting the less able, compositions/developing ideas, final outcome.
  • An example sketchbook page of good photography with bad annotation to stimulate discussion.
  • A photography checklist to encourage an interesting variety of photographs.
  • A one-page resource to aid compositions which you can see here.
  • A list of other artists who portray sweets and cakes in their art.

This Sweets and Cakes Unit of Work is ideal for students who are studying GCSE in the UK or courses that encourage guided independent learning.

Sarah Crowther – The Arty Teacher

I set up The Arty Teacher because I have a passion for my subject that I want to share with other art teachers around the world.

I have been a high school art teacher for over 20 years, so I understand what it’s like to be in front of a class of students, often with very different abilities and attitudes.

I wanted to develop resources that would help teachers to bring out the best in every student in every class. I also wanted to free-up staff from time-consuming lesson preparation to let them focus instead on delivering exciting, motivating, dynamic lessons, supported by excellent resources.
