This texture wall hanging unit of work results in students making a wall hanging like the one pictured here. Students explore texture and experiment with a broad range of media. They research 4 texture artists. Ideal if you are planning a recovery curriculum after the pandemic. This download includes:
- A 20 slide PowerPoint (pictured above) that includes before and after photos and clear instructions for every stage.
- A 6-page written unit of work with comprehensive teacher instructions for each stage. Also, guidance for pre-project materials and resources preparation, materials for each stage, instructions for each stage, suggested homework tasks, self-assessment, extension task, how to incorporate art literacy, and ideas to extend this project even further.
- An extension task texture-worksheet.
- A self-assessment worksheet.
- Letters to trace.
I am allowing 15 x 50 minute lessons to teach this in.
This texture wall hanging is just one of many art units of work on The Arty Teacher website.

Hey there,
I Love your lesson plan, but I am wondering if slide seven is missing something. I don’t see where you got the metallic look.
Also, for the construction part, do you think my students could use paper clips to put the individual letters together and then hot glue a piece of rope on top for hanging, instead of metal wire?
Again, great lesson and resources for the price.
Thank you,
Mr. Spurling

Hi Mr Spurling, You are right! It was missing a comment about covering the card in foil. I will update the resource and email you the additional text that I have added. Thank you. Sarah
This was a great lesson to open students eyes up to ways to create texture. They enjoyed creating the samples. I will do this again with my students
Hi Karen, Thank you for your review. Saying you will do it again speaks volumes!
My high school students loved this task! I allowed one lesson for each of the textures to be completed (70 minutes each). They chose a 7 letter word or repeated a shape 7 times to experience the different techniques
Hi Nicola, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review. It looks like you gave this lesson your own twist by letting students choose a 7-letter word or shape. Excellent!
