How green is your art department? Are you looking for Eco friendly art supplies? Do you consider the impact the materials you are using and the packaging are having on the environment?
It’s my experience that art teachers tend to really care about the environment and the impact their actions are having on climate change.
The pencils below all feature a triangular-shaped body that is produced using sustainably sourced soft white linden wood. Sustainable wood is wood that does not have a detrimental effect on the environment. It generally comes from a renewable source where trees can be felled and replanted with little knock-on effect to local wildlife, eco-systems and the environment in general. They come in sustainable packaging made from recycled pulp and unlaminated card.
The gummed tape at Dryad Education is from a sustainable source and is 100% biodegradable and 100% recyclable.
Sugar paper, also known as construction paper, isn’t always recycled. The sugar paper below is made from recycled pulp. Good to know.
Willow withies are the perfect sustainable material as it is harvested each year simply by cutting the withies from the shrub right down to the ground. Next year new withies regrow. The willow beds also create a great habitat for wildlife. Perfect!
Sari ribbon is strips of recycled sari. Suitable for weaving, embellishments and surface decoration, it adds instant texture and colour to your piece of work. You can buy multicoloured packs and packs of specific colours. Each bundle is unique
Wouldn’t it be great if all the paper we used in our departments was recycled? At least you can choose to do your bit. The white paper and black card below are both recycled. Make sure you test your media on the recycled white paper before using it with a class, as it is more absorbent than other types of drawing paper.
