End of Year Art Activities

End of Year Art Activities

What makes the ideal end of year art activity? You’re probably exhausted. You may have just poured all your energy into end-of-year exams or possibly an art show. You need something that is both easy and engaging. It is even better if it looks fun!

What makes the end of year art activities below ideal?

  • The art lessons below use minimal art supplies.
  • All the art activities below create little mess and are easy to get out and put away.
  • They only take one or two lessons to complete.

Drawing Dreams

The activity below asks students to draw what they imagine the person is dreaming or thinking about. It’s a wonderful lesson to encourage creative thinking and, optionally, could link to any Surrealist projects that you teach.

Gradating Coloured Pencil

All you need for the lesson below is colouring pencils. It’s a worthwhile lesson as it teaches students how to gradate coloured pencil. This will easily fill two lessons or students could finish it at home.

Drawing Spiders

My students have achieved amazing results with the spider gridded art cards below. Students can simply draw around the laminate card, add dots around the edge where the lines touch and join them up with a ruler – no measuring required! (Yeah, I really can’t to rulers at the end of the year!!!)

Drawing Funny Faces

The Funny Faces grid drawings and worksheets below offer students a great choice and show that you have a sense of humour! Being able to laugh with our students is just one tool in our kit bag to help manage behaviour.

Drawing a Hand

If you’re looking for something for older students, the ‘Drawing a Hand’ art lesson below provides a fantastic challenge. You could make turn this into a competition and offer a prize.

Thanks for the inspiration! I love lessons that use cheap art supplies as our school supplies next to nothing for art making!
