Sketchbook Circle Ammonites

By The Arty Teacher - August 10, 2021

These are my latest Sketchbook Circle pages.  Sketchbook Circle is a sketchbook exchange group.  As you may have seen, I’ve created lots of ammonite art teaching resources lately, so I thought I would take inspiration from them myself.

I started by using some of the collage materials that Sketchbook Circle had sent me.  This included the number 6, stickers, various papers including a piece that made a flap that opened out and a little envelope.  I had no idea what I was planning to do at this stage.  It was only after making the background that I had a ‘Eureka Moment’ and decided to do ammonites, and of course, there had to be six after sticking on the number six!

Three of the ammonites are pictures stuck on, one is a carbon print, one a carbon print with pen, and you’ll have to watch the video below to see the last, hidden ammonite!

I have also used Paynes Grey watercolour to add darker tones around the ammonites.

In my blog post titled ‘How to Print with Carbon Paper ‘, you can learn about carbon printing, a great technique for students.

I have other sketchbook Circle posts.  One inspired by hands, and another inspired by using metallic pens.
