The Son of Man by René Magritte

René Magritte was a Belgian artist who painted pictures that made people think differently about the world. He is famous for his surreal paintings, which means his art often showed things in strange, dream-like ways. One of his most famous works is The Son of Man.

In The Son of Man, we see a man in a suit and bowler hat, but there’s something unusual: an apple is floating right in front of his face, hiding it. Even though we can see his eyes peeking over the apple, we can’t fully see who he is.

Magritte once said that his art was meant to make us think about how we see the world. Why can’t we see the man’s face? Maybe the apple is a symbol of something that blocks our understanding.
