Van Gogh - Starry Night

Let’s look closely at Van Gogh’s painting called ‘Starry Night’.

We can see a landscape at night with a swirling sky. There is a large form in the foreground. This is a large tree
called a Cypress Tree.
Van Gogh uses limited colours. Mostly blue, black and yellow. The stars and moon shine in the sky. The brush marks give the effect that
the sky is almost moving. That the stars
and moon are shimmering.
There are hills below the sky. We can see a small town with a church and lights on in some of the windows. This was the view from Van Gogh's window when he
was staying at an asylum for people with poor mental health.
