Description

Analysing an Artwork by Henri Rousseau.

Being able to analyse an artwork is a key skill for students.  This resource uses questioning to assess your student’s ability to describe, assume, explain, analyse and imagine.

There are two versions of this resource, one for the UK and one for the USA. (Accounting for spellings of analyzing/analysing and colour/color) There is also a large colour picture of the artwork so that students can see a larger version.  To accommodate really able students I tell the class they can continue on the back should they wish to do so.

There are more ‘analysing an artwork’ resources on The Arty Teacher.

Lets start here…Visually appealing, which draws the kids right in, if it looks exciting, then they are excited. And let me just say, the font choice for the title is enviting and layed back, thats what made me stop to take a look at it.
I used this in my Art 1, 9th grade class. This is the basics, beginning of critique. Students will not get overwhelmed due to the small spaces for answers. And how fun is discussing animals? Kids love this topic of why would some take the time to paint an animal in a jungle? Even if they are too cool for school, this flat, nonthreating, colorful, shape filled piece will get any kid to talk.

Sarah Crowther – The Arty Teacher

I set up The Arty Teacher because I have a passion for my subject that I want to share with other art teachers around the world.

I have been a high school art teacher for over 20 years, so I understand what it’s like to be in front of a class of students, often with very different abilities and attitudes.

I wanted to develop resources that would help teachers to bring out the best in every student in every class. I also wanted to free-up staff from time-consuming lesson preparation to let them focus instead on delivering exciting, motivating, dynamic lessons, supported by excellent resources.
