Teaching your students about the assessment objectives takes time but is really good practice. It allows students to understand why they are completing certain tasks and the more they understand them, the more they are likely to become independent learners.
If you display the posters on your wall you can easily use them to question students. Initially, you can point out what assessment objective they are working on in that lesson. As they become more familiar with the AO’s, you can ask them which assessment objective they think they are working on at that moment.
Understanding the assessment objectives is also useful for those students who just want to do their own thing. The maverick in the class! If they understand from the beginning that they have to fulfill the assessment objectives it can make difficult conversations easier.
You can use these GCSE Assessment Objective Posters to demonstrate how some tasks help fulfill more than one assessment objective. For example, they may be drawing (AO3) but trying out a variety of different media (AO2).
