When an Art Room Apron Becomes Art

By The Arty Teacher - October 29, 2022

This has to be the most beautiful art apron I have ever seen. Hand-stitched by art teacher Jules White, it has been a true labour of love. She wrote on Facebook:

“This project was started during Covid and took me about 15 months to complete. I bought this apron back in my Bangkok days and it has travelled with me for nearly 10 years. It was getting mucky and needed a face lift. It’s structurally sound and I love it. As an art teacher, we become so connected with our Art smock.”

Vibrant, detailed and steeped with meaning, this apron has been made to be worn.

“I started embroidering with absolutely no idea that It would take as long as it did. I embroidered whilst my beloved dog Indi struggled with cancer, I have included her paw print on this. I embroidered with my Mum at her sewing group with the Nuns back home in Melbourne. My son signed it and I have embroidered over his name…. The spray cans have love written in Mandarin & Thai paying tribute to our journey. There is so much meaning in this piece.”

Up close, you can see every stitch. No wonder this took over 15 hours.

“I will use it, not for clay or really messy activity, but it absolutely needs to be worn….. this is it’s next iteration and makes me very happy indeed!”
